What is the difference between an alert and a push alert?

Alerts appear in the mobile application itself.

While push alerts will send to users with their push notifications enabled even if they do not currently have the app open on their phone.

Think of a push notification like an incoming text message: users will see the preview, then can they can tap to open the app from that notification.
